TW Series · FP Wide Velvet Frame

Wall-Filling Cinema. Sound From Behind the Image.

For people who build the room around the cinema experience—not around visible speakers or a standard screen size.

TW is a large-format woven acoustically transparent fixed-frame screen designed for dedicated home theaters. This page features the FP wide black velvet frame—the same frame design used in Shane Lee’s custom 170-inch theater.

The woven surface allows the center channel and front speakers to sit behind the picture, so dialogue and sound effects come naturally from the image. Standard and custom sizes are available, allowing the screen to be built around your wall, viewing distance, and projector.

TW Is a Strong Fit If

  • You are building a dedicated dark or controlled-light theater
  • Your center and front speakers will sit behind the screen
  • You want a large, wall-filling or room-specific screen size
  • You use a standard-throw or long-throw projector with sufficient brightness

Choose Another Screen If

  • You use an ultra-short-throw projector
  • Strong ambient light cannot be controlled
  • You do not need acoustic transparency
  • Maximum black level or laser-speckle control is your first priority

Real Comparison · Real Theater

Compared Across Price Levels. Chosen for a 170-Inch Theater.

Serious home theater users do not choose a screen by one specification alone. They consider brightness, sharpness, acoustic transparency, screen size, projector output, viewing distance, and budget. Shane Lee followed that same process before choosing TW for his own theater.

The Result: A Wall-Filling 170-Inch Theater

After comparing multiple screen materials, Shane selected SCREEN PRO TW for a custom 170-inch 16:9 FP screen that nearly fills his entire front wall.

Shane’s configuration

Shane observed a modest brightness and sharpness difference compared with his smaller premium screen. After using TW for one to two weeks, he found that difference minimal during normal viewing, while the larger 170-inch image delivered a much greater increase in immersion.

His goal was to show that a large, custom, acoustically transparent home theater screen does not require spending $7,000 or more on the screen alone. TW allowed him to put more of his budget into the experience he could actually see and feel.

Why He Considered TW

Before the 170-inch installation, Shane placed TW beside several premium and mid-range screen materials in an informal, real-room comparison using the XGIMI TITAN Noir Max.

In that comparison, TW appeared very close in brightness to the premium reference materials, with only small differences in sharpness and contrast. Shane also reported no visible speckle on TW in his setup and considered it a strong winner for its price level.

The comparison explains why TW entered his shortlist. The completed 170-inch theater shows why it became his final choice: not because it won every individual specification, but because it delivered the right balance of image quality, acoustic transparency, custom size, and cost.

RGB Triple-Laser Compatibility

TW preserves more brightness and a cleaner, more open image than darker grey woven materials such as 3W. This makes it a strong acoustic-transparent option for large screens and modern bright RGB triple-laser projectors.

Its fine woven structure can also help reduce visible laser speckle compared with many smooth white screens and painted walls.

Speckle cannot be completely eliminated, and results vary depending on the projector, viewing distance, content, and individual sensitivity.

TW vs 3W vs 3C

Choose TW

Choose TW when your speakers will sit behind the screen and you want to preserve more brightness, image openness, and large-screen impact.

Choose 3W

Choose 3W when your speakers must remain behind the screen and you prefer deeper black levels and a more controlled image in a dark theater.

Choose 3C

3C is not acoustically transparent. Choose it when stronger speckle control and perceived contrast are more important than placing speakers behind the image.

Standard and Custom Sizes

TW fixed-frame screens are available in multiple standard sizes. The exact 170-inch 16:9 configuration used in Shane Lee’s theater is also available as a made-to-order option.

Other dimensions and aspect ratios can also be custom-made. For a room-specific screen, send us:

  • Projector model
  • Available wall width and height
  • First-row viewing distance
  • Desired aspect ratio
  • Speaker placement

Large screens require sufficient projector brightness and normally need at least two people for safe assembly and installation.

DESIGNED AROUND THE CINEMA EXPERIENCE

Wall-filling cinema. Dialogue where it belongs.

TW is built for dedicated theaters where the screen, speakers and room work as one system. Its woven surface lets the center and front channels sit behind the picture, while standard and custom sizing lets the image be planned around the wall and viewing distance.

REAL-WORLD SETUP · SHANE LEE

A real 170-inch theater, chosen after direct comparison.

Shane compared screen materials across price levels before choosing TW for his own room. The decision was not about winning every specification; it was about the balance of image scale, acoustic transparency, image quality and budget in normal use.

WHY TW

The room feels more complete when picture and sound share the same plane.

TW is not simply a larger white surface. It is a room-planning choice for people who want a clean front wall, dialogue anchored to the image and the freedom to size the screen around the theater.

01 Sound from behind the picture

The woven surface allows the center and front speakers to sit behind the image, so voices and effects come from where the action appears.

02 Scale planned around your room

Choose a standard size or configure the screen around wall width, aspect ratio, seating distance and speaker placement.

03 A brighter woven-screen direction

The white woven surface is intended to preserve more light and image openness than darker grey woven materials such as 3W—useful when the image becomes very large.

04 A dedicated-theater finish

The FP wide black velvet frame gives the screen a deliberate architectural boundary and absorbs minor overscan at the image edge.

TW is a strong fit if

  • Your room is dark or has controlled light
  • Your front speakers will sit behind the screen
  • You want a large, wall-filling or room-specific image
  • You use a standard-throw or long-throw projector with sufficient brightness

Choose another screen if

  • You use an ultra-short-throw projector
  • Strong ambient light cannot be controlled
  • You do not need acoustic transparency
  • Maximum black level or stronger speckle control is your first priority

THE DECISION PROCESS

Why TW entered Shane’s final shortlist.

Before the installation, Shane placed TW beside premium and mid-range materials in an informal real-room comparison using the XGIMI TITAN Noir Max.

In Shane’s account, the remaining brightness and sharpness difference versus his smaller premium screen became minor during normal viewing after one to two weeks, while the increase in scale created a much more noticeable gain in immersion.

CHOOSE BY ROOM PRIORITY

TW, 3W or 3C?

The right material depends on where the speakers sit, how much light the room controls and which trade-off matters most. The comparison below is a decision guide, not a claim that one material wins every room.

TW Sound behind the image + large-screen openness

Choose TW when the speakers sit behind the screen and you prioritize more retained brightness, image openness and large-format impact.

3W Sound behind the image + deeper blacks

Choose 3W when acoustic transparency remains essential but a darker, more controlled image is the higher priority in a dark theater.

3C Speakers outside the screen + stronger speckle control

3C is not acoustically transparent. Choose it when perceived contrast and stronger speckle control matter more than placing speakers behind the picture.
